Defence of the Garden Realm II: (Mumble''s Dream)

English

By (author): Crispin

Illustrated by: Mary

Defence of the Garden Realm II (Mumble's dream) is a book for clever children from 6-12, which an adult can also enjoy as they read it to their children or grandchildren. It is the 2nd and final book in the series and again features the much-loved Crew of five as they tackle various real-life garden disasters. The crew comprises, Sergeant Dung (Dung beetle), Catty-P (now a Butterfly), Bumble (a posh and clumsy Bee), Little Scaredy spider (a vegetarian spider, who is not at all scared) and Mumble (a slightly depressed worm). The adventures are all written in rhyming verse and have beautiful watercolour illustrations (painted by my ninety year-old mum, Mary). There are six stories of how Mumble's friends (fellow crew-members) help him to realise his dreams. Then three stories of how various combinations of the crew-members try to rectify the damage done to the roots of two connected trees, caused by the building of a brick summerhouse. Then two stories involving Dung's neice many times removed Polka (an aggressive ladybird, who is an activist). Finally, there are three stories focussing on those that fly... Catty-P, first rescues and then falls in love with an arrogant Red admiral named Flight, after which, Bumble realises that he loves Catty-P and goes to find her, followed by the arrival of a crazy wasp named Luvjam Willsting. This book is packed with original ideas and is full of wholesome values for forming minds. See more

About Crispin

My name is Crispin. I am before all else a father to two lovely daughters a husband to my lovely wife and a son to my dear mother. I spent a life-time working to give my family the comfort and security of freedom from financial fear. It was when that had been achieved that I turned to writing poetry mainly because I had spent my life using language to encourage others to achieve objectives and it felt to me that I should record some of my skills in the form of poetry. Each week I wrote poems and took them on my visits to my mum. She was so moved by the poetry of the sea featured in my two original books Poeticus Pictoralis and Poeticus Pictoralis II (Nautical & Natural) both by Crispin that she took up her long-dormant brushes and painted the beautiful impressionist seascapes that you will see in those books (along with some other paintings from my wife and daughters). I then wrote Defence of the Garden Realm which my mum happily illustrated and now the 2nd and final book in that series Defence of the Garden Realm II (Mumble's dream) by Crispin illustrated by Mary is being released. My name is Mary. In the late 1940's I was fortunate enough to attend Art college. I liked the idea of one day illustrating a children's book. I got married and became the mother of three beautiful boys. My youngest son Crispin brought me his latest work and after reading it to me asked me to illustrate it with watercolour paintings...This I happily did.
