Knight of the Shoulder Knot: Life in Service to the Great Houses

English

By (author): Arthur Inch

Arthur Inch, in his own words, recounts the last of a lost age in private service to the great houses: Blenheim Palace, Spain's Belgravia embassy, Londonderry House, Wynyard Park and Mount Stewart. In Knight of the Shoulder Knot he recalls life upstairs and downstairs as one of the last, inter-War generation trained and polished in the skills of private service. Proud of his work, able in domestic ways whose finer points have long been lost to the machine or altogether, we are brought back to the days of grand dinners and shooting lodges. Chamberlain, Churchill, Franco, Kings, Queens and Princes were all waited on and taken care of throughout Inch's long career in the glamorous age of stately homes and aristocratic grandeur. See more
