Nano-Insecticide: Today and Future Perspectives

English

In recent years, nanotechnology has emerged as a promising tool for combating insect pests in agriculture, public health, and urban environments. Nanomaterials offer unique properties which can be leveraged to develop targeted and environmentally sustainable pest control solutions. However, despite growing interest in this area, there remains a need for a comprehensive resource that synthesizes the latest research findings and practical applications of nanotechnology for insect pest control. Nano-Insecticide addresses this gap by providing a thorough overview of the diverse applications of nanotechnology in insect pest management.

The book covers a wide range of topics, including nanoparticles for insecticide delivery and release, nanostructured materials for pest monitoring and detection, nanobiotechnology approaches for pest-specific targeting, environmental implications, safety considerations and more. Case studies and practical applications from various agricultural and urban settings are also featured.

Each chapter is authored by leading experts in their respective fields, ensuring that the book reflects the latest advancements and perspectives in nanotechnology for insect pest control. This book serves as a valuable resource for researchers, practitioners, policymakers, and students interested in the intersection of nanotechnology and pest management. By providing a comprehensive overview of the current state-of-the-art and future directions in the field, Nano-Insecticide aims to stimulate further research and innovation in this critical area. It has the potential to significantly advance our understanding and application of novel pest management strategies.

About

Dr. Perumal Vivekanandhans career as an insect biocontrol scientist has been dedicated to understanding and harnessing natures mechanisms to manage insect pest populations sustainably. With nine years of experience in entomology and pest management he has honed his skills in research experimentation and the implementation of innovative biocontrol strategies. Throughout his career Dr. Vivekanandhan has conducted extensive research into the ecology and behavior of insect pests aiming to identify vulnerabilities and weaknesses that can be exploited for effective control. His work has involved studying the interactions between pests entomopathogens and plant-derived chemical constituents to develop targeted biological control methods. One of his primary areas of expertise is the utilization of botanical essential oils for insect pest management. Dr. Vivekanandhan has conducted numerous studies exploring the repellent insecticidal and growth-regulating properties of plant-derived compounds against a variety of pest species. By understanding the biochemical mechanisms underlying these effects he has been able to optimize formulations and application methods for maximum efficacy. In addition to research he has played a key role in translating scientific findings into practical solutions for agricultural and public health challenges. Collaborating with industry partners government agencies and academic institutions Dr. Vivekanandhan has contributed to the development of integrated pest management (IPM) programs that prioritize biological control methods while minimizing reliance on synthetic pesticides. Patcharin Krutmuang is an Associate Professor in the Department of Entomology and Plant Pathology Chiang Mai University Thailand. Her research is on pest management with a focus on innovative strategies for controlling insect pests. With extensive experience in both theoretical research and practical applications she has made significant contributions to the development of sustainable pest management solutions. Her work includes the application of cutting-edge technologies and methodologies to enhance pest control efficacy and environmental sustainability. Patcharin Krutmuangs research spans various aspects of pest management including the development of novel biocontrol agents integration of biological control methods and the exploration of new technologies for pest monitoring and control. She is known for her collaborative approach and government agencies to translate scientific findings into actionable solutions. Her contributions have been instrumental in advancing integrated pest management (IPM) programs and addressing challenges in agriculture and public health.  Ram Prasad is an Associate Professor in the Department of Botany at Mahatma Gandhi Central University Motihari Bihar India. His research interests encompass applied and environmental microbiology plant-microbe interactions nanobiotechnology sustainable agriculture and the chemistry of biology. With fourteen years of teaching experience Dr. Ram Prasad has received numerous awards such as the Young Scientist Award and the Prof. J.S. Datta Munshi Gold Medal. He is also a Fellow of the Biotechnology Research Society of India the Agricultural Technology Development Society and the Society for Applied Biotechnology. His accolades include the American Cancer Society UICC International Fellowship for Beginning Investigators the Outstanding Scientist Award and the BRICPL Science Investigator Award. Dr. Prasad serves on the editorial boards of several journals including Nanotechnology Reviews Green Processing and Synthesis BMC Microbiology and BMC Biotechnology. He is the Series Editor of Nanotechnology in the Life Sciences for Springer Nature USA. Previously he has held academic positions at Amity University Johns Hopkins University and Sun Yat-sen University. Jayalakshmi Krishnan holds a Ph.D. from the Defence Research and Development Organization (DRDO) Delhi (2002-2006) and completed her postdoctoral research at Ajou University South Korea (2006-2008). She began her academic career as a Research Assistant Professor at Ajou University (2008-2009) before joining SRM University Chennai Tamil Nadu India as an Assistant Professor in 2011. Currently Dr. Krishnan serves as the Head of the Department of Life Sciences at Central University of Tamil Nadu (CUTN) Thiruvarur Tamil Nadu India a position she has held since 2012. She has also served as the Coordinator of the Department of Epidemiology and Public Health at CUTN from 2016 to 2020. During her tenure she organized various programs related to vector control including the WHO expert consultation for Kala-Azar elimination in 2016 and the 13th International Conference on Vector-Borne Diseases in 2017. She has also coordinated numerous workshops and outreach activities. Dr. Krishnan has supervised one Ph.D. student in entomological surveillance and insecticide resistance and has guided 19 masters students in the field of entomology. She has successfully completed two projects on vector surveillance funded by ICMR and TIGS focusing on Lakshadweep islands.
