About Ira Kantrowitz-GordonJulia Phillippi
Julia Phillippi PhD CNM FACNM FAAN earned a bachelor of arts degree from Maryville College a master of science degree from Vanderbilt University and a PhD in nursing from University of Tennessee Knoxville. She has been active in midwifery practice teaching and research; over the course of her career she has provided midwifery services in homes birth centers and hospitals in both rural and urban areas. She has been a midwifery educator for 17 years and currently serves as Professor of Nursing at Vanderbilt University School of Nursing. Her research has been funded by the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development and the National Institute of Nursing Research among others. She has publications in a variety of perinatal journals and has made numerous presentations at midwifery and health servicesrelated conferences. Her awards include the American College of Nurse-Midwives Foundation Excellence in Teaching and Kitty Ernst Awards March of Dimes of Middle Tennessee Nurse Researcher of the Year and Outstanding Peer Reviewer and Best Review Article from the Journal of Midwifery & Womens Health. She has been an associate editor for the Journal of Midwifery & Womens Health since 2019. She is a fellow of the American College of Nurse-Midwives and American Academy of Nursing. Ira Kantrowitz-Gordon PhD CNM FACNM FAAN earned a bachelor of science degree in biology from Brown University a bachelor of science degree in nursing and a masters degree in nursing from University of Washington and a PhD in nursing from Washington State University. He has been active in midwifery practice teaching and research for many years. He has been a midwifery educator for 14 years and is currently an Associate Professor of Nursing at University of Washington School of Nursing. His research focuses on mindfulness interventions during pregnancy and early parenting reducing the stigma of perinatal opioid disorder and increasing workforce diversity in midwifery and biomedical science. He has published in midwifery nursing and multidisciplinary journals. His awards include the American College of Nurse-Midwives Foundation Excellence in Teaching and Outstanding Peer Reviewer from the Journal of Midwifery & Womens Health. He has been a deputy editor for the Journal of Midwifery & Womens Health since 2021 and is a member of the Maternal Mortality Review Panel for Washington State. He is a fellow of the American College of Nurse-Midwives and American Academy of Nursing.
