Victorian Cornwall: A Look at Cornwall Through the Eyes of our Forefathers

English

By (author): Malcolm McCarthy

`Victorian Cornwall is a tour around the county from the north coast on the Devon border right around to Lands End, out to the Scillies and back up the south coast with a few inland villages interspersed. The book is illustrated by photographs taken from the 1850s right through to 1901a large span of Queen Victorias reign. The photographs used where practicable are as early as possible in an effort to save these rare and treasured images for generations to come. The photographs all come from the authors personal collection and will take the reader back to Cornwall of 150 years ago; included in the book are photographs of characters, customs, villages, harbours, mines and buildings of note. This fascinating book is well researched using the knowledge of many local people. See more

About Malcolm McCarthy

Malcolm McCarthy was born in Cornwall in 1957 and was brought up in his mothers native town of Padstow on the North Cornish coast. As a boy he was always around the harbour which was 30 yards from where he lived; this spurred an interest which would affect his whole life. After school he joined the metropolitan police where he served on Thames Division for 12 years before returning to be Berthing Master at Padstow Harbour for over 20 years.
