This Open Access book intends to report the new results of the Global One Health Index (GOHI). The content of this book underlines the functions and importance of developing the evaluation tool (GOHI) for global One Health practice, shows the results of GOHI score in 160 countries/territories and key findings in details, and provides different policy recommendations to UN agencies, countries, and communities to promote the wide application of the One Health approach. A pilot study was conducted in 2021, and its related publications are collected in one section of the book. The book is likely to be of interest to researchers, practitioners, policy-makers, and stakeholders in applying One Health who wish to learn about the development, results, key findings, and policy recommendations of GOHI study.

About

The authors are from the global One Health index (GOHI) research team. This team comprises of more than 40 experts from the School of Global Health Chinese Center for Tropical Diseases Research Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine. Members of this team specialize in various One Health-related fields such as epidemiology antimicrobial resistance governance and policy environmental health etc. The team has contributed to the field of One Health by conducting interdisciplinary research and advocating for the integration of human animal and environmental health. Prof. Xiao-Nong Zhou is the Chief Scientist on parasitic diseases control in Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention (China CDC) and the Director of the World Health Organization (WHO) Collaborating Centre for Tropical Diseases. He also serves as Vice Dean of the School of Global Health Chinese Center for Tropical Diseases Research Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine and as Director of the One Health Center Shanghai Jiao Tong University-The University of Edinburgh. He is serving as the Chairman of Global Health Society of Chinese Preventive Medicine Association as well as the founding Editor-in-Chief of Infectious Diseases of Poverty the founding Editor-in-Chief of Science in One Health and Editor-in-Chief of Chinese Journal for Schistosomiasis Control. Professor Zhou is a leading international expert in the research and control of tropical diseases with over 40 years of experience in implementing One Health approaches to control tropical diseases. In particularly his research interests focus on the spatial epidemiology of parasitic diseases leading to innovative strategies to support national control programs. With great efforts on implementation research his contribution to the establishment of surveillance-response systems for parasitic diseases at national level has promoted the elimination of parasitic diseases significantly in China. Prof. Xiaokui Guo is a Distinguished Professor at Shanghai Jiao Tong University Deputy Director of the National Center for Tropical Disease Research Director of the Global Center for Medical Education Research and Director of the Biomedical Science Program. He also serves as the Chairman of the Medical Microbiology and Immunology Committee of the Chinese Society of Microbiology Deputy Chairman of the Microecology and Health Committee of the China Medicine Education Association and Secretary General of the Chinese Consortium for One Health. He is the Editor-in-Chief of Global Medical Education and the Director of the Editorial Department of Sciences in One Health. The main focus of his scientific research is on microbiology and One Health. His team was the first internationally to complete the genomic sequence analysis of leptospires. They established a genomic-based probiotic safety evaluation technology service platform and promoted the first clinical practice in China on phage therapy for drug-resistant bacterial infections after approved by institutional ethics committees. He has been awarded the National Outstanding Teacher National-level Teaching Master and National Advanced Individual in Education and Scientific Research. He has also received the first prize of the National Textbook Award a Special Award for National Education Research Achievement and two first prizes and one second prize for national teaching achievements. Associated Prof. Xiaoxi Zhang is an Associate Research Professor at the School of Global Health Chinese Research Center for Tropical Diseases Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine. Xiaoxi holds her PhD degree in economics and MSc degree in global health and Bachelor degree in clinical medicine. She has strong research interests in global health governance and health policy research with specific focus on performance evaluation and decision-making simulation in One Health scenarios. She has extensive publications in impactful academic journals including The Lancet Regional Health Infectious Diseases of Poverty Nature (correspondence letter) One Health and Global Health Research and Policy. Her work has been selected as Top 100 Chinas Medical Science paper of 2022 by Chinese Medical Association. Before commencing Shanghai Jiao Tong University she worked as a health policy research analyst for Shanghai Health Development Research Center and interned for the World Health Organization headquarter and Egypt country office. She hopes her research could bring real-world impact to the system building of One Health.
