About

Charlotte Cowan Pearson was born in Edinburgh on the 24th July 1837 five weeks after Queen Victoria ascended the British throne; she died in the same city on the 6th March 1917 and is buried in the citys Dean Cemetery. Very little is known of Charlottes life but it is known that she was admitted as a lady member of the Botanical Society of Edinburgh (now Botanical Society of Scotland) in 1894 and that she was an enthusiastic botanical artist. An album of Charlottes beautiful botanical paintings of British plants made in a variety of Scottish and Yorkshire locations is held in the Library of the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh and pays witness to her talents as an artist.
