Both were men of serious purpose, with a sense of mission in their business activities. Sonnenschein, who later changed his name to Stallybrass, was the publisher of Bernard Shaw’s novels, of George Moore’s \u003ci\u003eConfessions of a Young Man\u003c\/i\u003e; the first English edition of Marx’s \u003ci\u003eCapital\u003c\/i\u003e; J. M. Barrie’s first novel, \u003ci\u003eBetter Dead\u003c\/i\u003e; Edwards Carpenter’s \u003ci\u003eTowards Democracy\u003c\/i\u003e; and besides an immense list of books on Social Science – which were far ahead of their time – he launched, with Professor J. H.
