{"product_id":"high-visibility-blaze-orange","title":"High Visibility (Blaze Orange)","description":"Focusing on Utah’s West Desert, Jaclyn Wright’s work aims to illustrate the struggle between the \nnatural world and its codification by bureaucrats, the visible and invisible and the ironies of fantasies of \nfreedom and nativism on stolen land. \nLocated on the western side of the Great Salt Lake, much of the West Desert, the ancestral home of the \nGoshute people, is managed by the Bureau of Land Management. The area is classified by the US Federal \nGovernment as ‘public lands’ yet significant acreage is privately leased for mining and cattle ranching and \nnearly one-third of the area is used as biological and chemical weapons testing grounds. The lake is rapidly \ndrying up due to overuse and human-caused ecological change—threatening millions of migratory birds \nand the population of Salt Lake City. The remaining areas are open to various uses, including improvised \ngun ranges. \nThe motif of the colour blaze orange is dispersed throughout the book as a nod to the most conspicuous \ntype of debris found in the West Desert ranges—blaze orange clay pigeons. \nThese aerial targets are painted this colour to ensure they stand out against the sky on a clear day and \nagainst a natural landscape. A colour created to oppose nature, not to be confused with it.","brand":"GOST Books","offers":[{"title":"Default Title","offer_id":54220899483992,"sku":"9781915423023","price":55.99,"currency_code":"EUR","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0278\/1295\/4195\/files\/9781915423023.jpg?v=1777201279","url":"https:\/\/agendabookshop.com\/products\/high-visibility-blaze-orange","provider":"Agenda Bookshop","version":"1.0","type":"link"}
