Discover the science of the natural world - on your doorstep!

Lakes and ponds are found at all corners of the planet, from deserts to rainforests. But, did you know, the lakes and ponds near you are also brimming with life? This book uncovers the science and wonders of life in the water.

The Great Outdoors aims to get kids looking at nature on their doorstep. Instead of larger biomes, the series looks at places children are most likely to have access to, such as the local park, their back garden, or a beach. It encourages them to observe the wildlife and the ecosystems at work within these places, while taking in broader concepts. Each volume contains a minimum of 6 activities, which vary from observation to crafts, suitable for ages 7+.

Lisa Regan studied English and Linguistics at the University of Nottingham and gained a postgraduate diploma in Publishing at West Herts College. She has written over 400 published titles, including picture books, puzzle books, children's reference and curriculum-linked workbooks. She lives in Colchester, UK, with her sons, and a husband with an encyclopaedic knowledge of football. Her work ranges from magazine-style books on fashion and sleepovers, to highly illustrated STEM titles that fit into schools and libraries lists. Her favourite topics are wildlife and geography, but she also has huge fun writing rhyming tales. Supriya Sahai is a designer, illustrator and author. She has worked on Reference and Non-fiction content for various publishers, including Dorling Kindersley, Lonely Planet, HarperCollins, Scholastic, Macmillan and Bloomsbury. She has also published several children's reference titles via her design practice Square and Circus.
