The novel begins many years in the future when Mayn, an exemplary spaceship officer, is cruelly banished to a remote asteroid. He records his survival schemes (between ingenious and desperate), but can only scour his memory for clues as to who and why...In Part Two, the scene moves to a criminal investigation on the mother ship named Yggdrasil. As they tease out a compelling narrative from recalcitrant suspects (mysteriously, Mayn had more enemies than he thought) the Investigators are startled by new evidence which totally defies scientific logic.
