Collins Big Cat supports every primary child on their reading journey from phonics to fluency. Top authors and illustrators have created fiction and non-fiction books that children love to read. Nellie Bly was a ground-breaking investigative journalist in the 19th Century, highlighting areas such as war and politics, which was unusual for a woman at that time. This fascinating graphic novel biography of her life, written and illustrated by Oliver Brooks, presents the ground-breaking adventures she had through her career including the one that made her famous – following the journey from the book Around the World in 80 Days.

Topaz/ Band 13 books offer longer and more demanding reads for children to investigate and evaluate.

Pages 30 and 31 allow children to re-visit the content of the book, supporting comprehension skills, vocabulary development and recall.

Ideas for reading in the back of the book provide practical support and stimulating activities.

Oliver has been writing and drawing stories since he could pick up a pencil. Since graduating from Brighton University in 2014, he has focused on writing for children, discovering graphic novels to be his preferred medium for storytelling as it combines both words and visuals. He enjoys the research journey each project takes him on, discovering the history and customs of other cultures or time periods. His interests are history, folklore, and cartoons, all of which appear in his books.
