Why in the World introduces citizenship topics in a sensitive way with heartfelt illustrations, helping to connect children's own experiences to larger issues in the world

We are all humans. Everyone has the right to be treated equally. So why is there racism? This book explains what racism is, from unkind words in the playground, to racist behaviour around the world. It looks at ways we can all support each other to ensure that everyone feels included.

Full of empathy and emotion, these guides are an excellent first look at life's challenges. The notes included for parents and teachers offer a springboard for healthy discussion at home and in the classroom.

Anita Ganeri is an award-winning author of children's information books. She has been a writer for 20 years, after working in-house for Usborne Publishing and Walker Books. She specialises in the natural world, religion and mythology but is always looking for new challenges. Among her many titles are the best-selling 'Horrible Geography' series for Scholastic Children's Books which won the Blue Peter Book Award for the Best Book with Facts in 2009 and the Tivy Education Medal from the Royal Scottish Geographical Society for an outstanding contribution to geographical education. Anita lives in northern England with her husband, children, dogs and cat. She enjoys reading, walking the Moors, playing tennis and dreaming of winning Wimbledon. Award-winning illustrator, Renia Metallinou, studied graphic design in the Athenian Design College (AKTO) and a few years later, studied fashion design, after winning a two-year scholarship. Living a few miles from Athens near the sea, she is now a full time illustrator, creating books for publishers in Greece and abroad.
