Concise Guide to the Moths of Great Britain and Ireland: Second edition

English

By (author): Dr Paul Waring Martin Townsend Paul Waring Richard Lewington

Illustrated by: Richard Lewington

‘A remarkable field guide ... one of those books that come along every now and then and cause a revolution.’ - Michael McCarthy, Independent This concise guide is a companion to the main Field Guide to the Moths of Great Britain and Ireland by the same expert authors, but is in a condensed form with artwork opposite the species descriptions and lay-flat binding for ease of use in the field. It includes brief but comprehensive field descriptions of all the macro-moths in Great Britain, Ireland, the Isle of Man and the Channel Islands, and this second edition has been thoroughly revised and updated to reflect the latest advances in taxonomy. Featuring more than 1,700 superbly detailed colour artworks and covering nearly 900 species, this portable guide is an essential addition to every moth-lover's field kit. See more

About Dr Paul WaringMartin TownsendPaul WaringRichard Lewington

Martin Townsend started specialising in Lepidoptera at the age of ten. He graduated with a BSc in Zoology from the University of Aberdeen in 1985, and since then has worked in ecological research and conservation. He is now an independent consultant, carrying out site surveys for conservation bodies and other landowners. Paul Waring was born in the New Forest. A schoolboy interest in caterpillars led to Honours Zoology at the University of Oxford and a PhD on the impact of woodland management in Bernwood Forest. Since 1987, he has worked full time on moth conservation in Britain, both within government conservation agencies and as a freelancer, as well as mothing throughout the world. Richard Lewington studied graphic design at the Berkshire College of Art, and since leaving in 1971 has specialised in natural-history illustration. His meticulous paintings are the mainstay of many of the modern classics of field-guide art, including The Butterflies of Britain and Ireland, Guide to Garden Wildlife and Field Guide to the Bees of Great Britain and Ireland. Richard has also designed and illustrated wildlife stamps for several countries. In 1999 he was awarded Butterfly Conservation's Marsh Award for the promotion of Lepidoptera conservation, and in 2010 the Zoological Society of London's Stamford Raffles Award for contribution to zoology.
