Concentrate on the biblical author's message as it unfolds.

Designed to assist the pastor and Bible teacher in conveying the significance of God's Word, the Zondervan Exegetical Commentary on the New Testament series treats the literary context and structure of every passage of the New Testament book in the original Greek.

With a unique layout designed to help you comprehend the form and flow of each passage, the ZECNT unpacks:

  • The key message.
  • The author's original translation.
  • An exegetical outline.
  • Verse-by-verse commentary.
  • Theology in application.

While primarily designed for those with a basic knowledge of biblical Greek, all who strive to understand and teach the New Testament will benefit from the depth, format, and scholarship of these volumes.

Gary Shogren (Ph.D., Kings College, Aberdeen) was raised in small-town New England (Rhode Island) in a family that has roots back to the founding of the colony in the 1600s. He grew up in the Baptist church and came to believe in Christ at the age of six. However, when he was a teenager, a series of experiences led him to a deeper walk with God and a sense that God was calling him into ministry. After a number of years of education (culminating with a Ph.D. in New Testament from Kings College, Aberdeen, Scotland), he served as a pastor and then as a professor. He has been a NT professor since 1988. In 1998 he and his family moved to Costa Rica to learn Spanish, so that he could teach at ESEPA Bible College and Seminary in San José, Costa Rica; teaching online from the US since 2021. He has written a number of articles and several books, including articles in the Anchor Bible Dictionary, Novum Testamentum, and Dictionary of Jesus and the Gospels; Gran diccionario enciclopédico de la Biblia; a Greek grammar textbook; Running in Circles, a guide for counseling drug addicts; Spanish-language commentaries on 1 Corinthians, 1-2 Thessalonians (in English from Zondervan), and Romans. He is married to Karen and has four grown children.  See Gary's blog at www.openoureyeslord.com   Clinton E. Arnold (PhD, University of Aberdeen) is research professor of New Testament at Talbot School of Theology, Biola University in La Mirada, California. He has authored many books and commentaries, including Ephesians in the Zondervan Exegetical Commentary series and Acts in the Zondervan Illustrated Bible Backgrounds Commentary.
