The 150th anniversary of the birth of Lord Baden-Powell, the founder of the world's largest voluntary uniformed youth movement, fell on 22 February 2007. It was also the centenary of the Scout Movement. To celebrate the birth of Lord Baden-Powell and 100 years of Scouting, Scout historian Steven Harris has selected almost 200 wonderful photographs.

These depict the founder, the Scouts themselves - showing them engaged in Scouting activities, and their numerous branches - and key places with a Scouting connection. Such images help to bring alive the many camps, excursions and duties enjoyed and performed by millions of youngsters and adults throughout the decades.

These fascinating photographs, many of which have not been published before, are accompanied by informative captions. They will evoke nostalgic memories in the many past and present members of the Scout Movement, and will also appeal to all those with an interest in traditions, British institutions and social history.

Steven Harris is a teacher and freelance writer and has a particular interest in youth culture and children's fiction. |He has previously written Legalised Mischief Volume One: A History of the Boy Scout Movement from a Grassroots Perspective; Legalised Mischief, Volume Two: A History of the Scout Movement from a Grassroots Perspective; Legalised Mischief Volume Three: A History of the Scout Movement from a Grassroots Perspective.
