Rescue old and beautiful chairs, beds and footstools with fabulous new fabrics and renovate treasured family heirlooms in perfect period style.
With clear step-by-step instructions throughout, A Beginner's Guide to Upholstery shows you how to take your old or tattered furniture and fabrics and breathe new life into them with natural and sustainable materials. By saving the money you would have spent on someone else doing the work, you can afford to splash out on a really special length of cloth and create stunning pieces of furniture that reflect your own individual style.
A Beginner's Guide to Upholstery is a fantastic new edition of the previously published Quick & Easy Upholstery.
Alex Law has been working as an upholsterer since the late 1980s. He has followed the traditional path from apprentice, through journeyman and on to Master Upholsterer. In 2013 Alex left teaching in London and set up the Kent School of Upholstery bringing upholstery classes back to the town where he first learnt the craft: Faversham.
Posy Gentles is a garden designer who restores and revives gardens. She took upholstery classes with the aim of rescuing a small nursing chair she inherited from her grandmother. Since then, her passion has been such that she has even snapped up armchairs and sofas left on the street for rubbish collection.
