A Time Of War is book three in The Westlands series – a brilliant quartet set in the magical lands of Deverry.
A dragon found, an army raised and an eyeless bard with a tale of blood and magic…
The life of Jahdo the ratcatcher's son changes forever when he stumbles upon a clandestine meeting between an ambitious councilman and a dangerous, mysterious woman.
When a bard arrives, demanding help under an old treaty, he unknowingly drags Jahdo into a web of intrigue and black magic. The boy’s destiny takes him far from his beloved home in the peaceful land of the Rhiddaer, on a journey to the faraway land of Deverry, where his path crosses with that of the half-mad berserker Rhodry and the mighty sorcerer Jill.
For a ruthless deity is rising, and the truths of the ties between elves and men will soon be revealed in the fallout of a battle waged between gods and mortals, between past and future. Days of blood and fire lie ahead for them all.
History and destiny collide in The Westlands series, where Kerr weaves myth and history to create a sparkling fantasy classic: a tale of adventure and timeless love, perilous battle and
pure magic.
Leaving snowy Ohio for California, Katharine Kerr studied at Stanford University for a spell before dropping out to join some of the many social movements sweeping San Francisco in the 60s. She first became involved in the field of fantasy through role-playing games, writing articles for gaming magazines and authoring early quests for Dungeons and Dragons – all of which soon led her to fantasy writing, with her first Deverry novel, Daggerspell, appearing in 1986. Since then, her Deverry series has hit The Times and the Australian bestseller lists, garnering fans from around the world.
‘A criminally under-rated and overlooked epic fantasy sequence [with] a keen sense of history, well drawn characters, and a complex plot.’
Kate Elliott, bestselling author
‘An unusually scholarly writer of fantasy’
