Gustav Schiefler, a lawyer from Hamburg, and his wife, Luise, were for decades among Emil Nolde’s trusted friends and patrons. It is a rare stroke of luck that the correspondence between the artist couple and collector friends, with over 700 letters, has been preserved nearly in its entirety.
