Mason Lowance is professor of English at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. He has held a Guggenheim Fellowship and a National Endowment for the Humanities Fellowship, and has been a fellow of the National Humanities Institute at Yale University and a life member of the American Antiquarian Society.
