Circumambulations is the first monograph of the Swedish artist Arijana Kajfes. It presents her body of work since the late 1980s, categorised according to the themes: Light, Circles, Rotation, Spirals, Earth, Domes, Body, Fire, and Sound. In close collaboration with the graphic designer Sandra Praun, Kajfes developed the content, both image and text, as a work-in-progress. The loose form of a sketchbook allows for the incorporation of notes, quotations, and cross-references, providing the reader with deep insight into Kajfes’s working process. The publication concludes with a conversation between Arijana Kajfes and art critic Lars-Erik Hjertström Lappalainen.
Arijana Kajfes is a Swedish artist working with sculpture and installation using various media and materials, often performatively, to explore basic ontological questions. She has been involved in several multi-disciplinary projects in the intersections of art and science, with honorary mention at Ars Electronica (Linz) for her project Occular Witness and more recently through cross-cultural work using the different perspectives emerging from her travels, in particular between Sweden and Mali, working and exhibiting in both countries and developing new artistic approaches, shown during residencies at Cité des Arts in Paris. Since 2017 she has defined her performative work as circumambulations, which also is the title of the coming publication. Kajfes works experimentally, mostly outside the commercial art world, and is a recipient of numerous grants and rewards from, among others, the Swedish Arts Grants Committee.
