The present-day, bustling market town of Yeovil has lost more than its fair share of the post-war developer. Many on old Yeovilian will fondly recall the medieval, half-timbered George Hotel (on Middle Street) and the Town Station which once boasted two stationmasters (GWR and LSWR). Regrettably, both have long since been swept away.

However, this fascinating selection of about 200 old photographs, culled largely from the unrivalled collection at the Museum of South Somerset, allows the observer to revisit those once familiar scences that are now gone forever. Notable personalities of the town's past are also featured, which mayors rubbing shoulders with writers, firemen, footballers and bandsmen!

Communities covered include Barwick, Brympton, Mudford, Tintinhull and other places within a ten-mile radius of Yeovil. Robin Ansell and Marion Barnes have delved deep into the local history of the area to produce a tantalising glimpse of the so-called 'good old days'.
