As When spans the range of Tom Raworth’s poetry to date, and includes work omitted from his Collected Poems (2003) as well as poems previously only issued as fugitive cards and broadsides. This edition of Tom Raworth’s poems is beautifully arranged, with an introduction to his life and work long overdue.

Tom Raworth was born in London in 1938. Between 1966 and 2017 he published more than fifty books and pamphlets of poetry, prose and translations. His graphic work was shown in Europe, the United States and South Africa, and he gave readings of his poems worldwide. Raworth received the Cholmondeley Award, the Alice Hunt Bartlett Prize, the Philip Whalen Memorial Award and, in Italy, the Antonio Delfini Prize for Lifetime Achievement. He died in Sussex in 2017. Miles Champion was born in Nottingham in 1968. He edited Tom Raworth’s As When (Carcanet, 2015) and Ted Greenwald’s The Age of Reasons (Wesleyan University Press, 2016), and, with Trevor Winkfield, co-authored How I Became a Painter (Pressed Wafer, 2014). He lives in Brooklyn, New York.
