The Fourth British Egyptology Congress (BEC 4) was held in September 2018 at the University of Manchester, allowing scholars from around the world to present their latest research to their peers. Eighty-two papers were presented, including four keynote speeches, covering the full spectrum of Egyptology, archaeology, museology, and the history of travel along the Nile.

The 13 papers included in this volume are representative of the wide variety of research discussed during BEC 4, reflecting ongoing studies of their authors. It is hoped that providing a publication platform through these Proceedings will stimulate further dialogue and investigation.
Carl Graves completed his PhD at the University of Birmingham in 2017 on the topic of cultural landscapes of Middle Egypt during the Middle Kingdom with a particular focus on the necropolis of Beni Hassan. During his time in Birmingham Carl was also the Postgraduate Curator of the Eton College William Joseph Myers Collection of Egyptian Art and a co-founder of Birmingham Egyptology. He has worked at the Egypt Exploration Society since 2013 and currently facilitates communications with our international community of supporters fundraising and organising our programme of educational training events.
