Turn your love of drawing into a creative career with practical advice, inspiration and a rare glimpse into the real life of an illustrator.

In Becoming an Illustrator: 100 Ways to Draw a Bird and Turn Art into a Living, award-winning illustrator and professor Felix Scheinberger shares his experience of what it truly means to work as an illustrator today—from landing your first commissions and negotiating fair prices to understanding contracts, usage rights and the business side of creativity. Part career guide, part celebration of artistic oddballs, and part friendly companion that answers the questions every illustrator secretly wonders about, the book combines insight and humour, featuring work by over 120 illustrators. Each artist reveals their own approach, proving there’s no single right way to draw or to build a creative life.

Drawing on his years of professional practice and teaching, Scheinberger offers a wealth of valuable tips, more than twenty-five essential illustration techniques and practical guidance on developing your style, overcoming creative fear and building a sustainable artistic routine. Whether you’re sketching at a kitchen table, in a café, or running your own studio, this book inspires you to create, grow, and maybe even earn a living from your art—one feathered friend at a time.

Felix Scheinberger is a prolific German illustrator, artist and designer known for his expressive watercolour style.
