In summer 2007 former president Jimmy Carter caused uproar when he described George W. Bush's foreign policy as the worst in history. Not because people disagreed, but because it was unheard-of for former presidents to attack incumbents. But Carter is no ordinary former president.
Now eighty-two years old, and nearly thirty years after he left office, Carter has experienced arguably the fullest and most effective post-presidential career in history, including winning the Nobel Peace Prize in 2002. After a period in office that even supporters acknowledge was not wholly successful, his drive, philanthropy and honesty have ensured that his overall reputation as a statesman and man of peace is assured.
Now, in this enthralling and inspiring memoir of the post-White House years, Carter reveals the challenges, rewards and excitements of refusing to ease himself into comfortable retirement.
