Anna may be the smallest member of the dog team, but she’s surely the most determined. In this incredible true story, Anna is picked to join a thrilling, 2,500-mile expedition across the top of the world. When the lead dog becomes lost, it’s up to Anna to take his place. Will she have what is takes to ensure the survival of all?
Arctic adventurer Pam Flowers shares Anna’s amazing story in classrooms and auditoriums all over North America. Children lean that even the smallest, seemingly the most powerless among us, are big enough to try their best.
Pam Flowers and her team ran the Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race, mushed to the Magnetic North Pole, and made a 2,500-mile trans-arctic expedition. Her account of that journey is chronicled in Alone Across the Arctic, and she is also the coauthor of the children’s book Ellie's Long Walk: The True Story of Two Friends on the Appalachian Trail and Douggie: The Playful Pup Who Became a Sled Dog Hero. Pam shares her amazing inspirational stories in classrooms and auditoriums all over North America. She lives in Talkeetna, Alaska. Alaskan author Ann Dixon has written several children's books, including Blueberry Shoe and Winter Is. With Pam, she coauthored Alone Across The Arctic. Bill Farnsworth is the illustrator of more than fifty children's books, including Ellie's Long Walk. His work includes images for the Kaya books in the American Girl Series, and he has received numerous awards and honors, including Notable Social Studies Trade Books for Young People, American Bookseller Pick of the Lists, and selection for the Society of Illustrator's Original Art Show. Farnsworth's warmly lit oil paintings gracefully illuminate the Maine landscape and Sockalexis's days on the baseball diamond. Farnsworth lives with his family in Venice, Florida.
