"A sweet celebration of family and introduction to some perennially popular animals." - Kirkus Reviews Winner of the International Competition for the Best Inclusive Story - organized by Inclusive Works and Clavis Publishing. Danny is spending the week with his grandpa. Grandpa has a painting of five animals. “Those are the big five,” says Grandpa, “the most famous animals from my homeland,” Grandpa tells Danny about one animal each day. A playful and informative story about wild animals and about the love between a child and a grandparent. For animal lovers ages 3 and up. Guided Reading Level I At Clavis, our focus is on what’s best for children. We believe that books play an important role in each new phase in life. Our toddler books are tailored for every stage from 0 to 3 and focus on the five most important themes in their life: daily life, skills, emotions, the world, and language development. The age range and theme of every book in our toddler series can be found on the back cover in the form of a colored train.
As a child, Bella Makatini (1980, Den Bosch, NL) liked to write. She asked notebooks for her birthday to fill them with her stories. She continued writing, also during her studies in communication sciences and sociology, and her job as a project manager in research. With The Big Five, Bella won the international children's story competition of Inclusive Works and Clavis Publisher in the toddlers category. The story is about a boy who, together with his grandfather, explores the elephant, the lion, the rhinoceros, the leopard and the buffalo. Judi Abbot was born and raised in Italy. She studied illustration at the art school in Milan. Now, she lives with her family in London. Judy usually works with acrylics, collage and color pencils, but she is also good with digital media. Next to her work as an illustrator, Judy organizes creative workshops for children in bookshops and in libraries.
