The British Light Infantryman of the Seven Years' War was proficient at scouting and skirmishing, and more than a match for the French and their Indian allies.

Shooting rapids in canoes, traversing swamps and snowshoeing through endless tracts of forest, British redcoats earned a reputation for resilience and resourcefulness as they adapted to the wilderness conditions of North America.

Their development was a watershed in the history of irregular warfare, and this book provides a full examination of their fighting methods, covering training, tactics and campaigning from Canada to the Caribbean.

Lieutenant Colonel Ian McCulloch serves on the Directing Staff of the Canadian Forces Joint Command & Staff College. The former Deputy Director of History & Heritage for the Canadian Forces in Ottawa, Ian is the author of the comprehensive two-volume history Sons of the Mountains: The Highland Regiments in the French & Indian War, 1756–67.

Tim J. Todish is an author and historical consultant specializing in the French and Indian War. He has advised on various media projects, including the award-winning History Channel documentary Frontier: Legends of the Old Northwest.

Steve Noon was born in Kent, UK, and attended art college in Cornwall. Since 1985 he has worked as a professional artist, and provided award-winning illustrations for renowned publishers Dorling Kindersley.
