A young moose makes new friends and encounters unexpected danger while journeying across the snowy mountains with is mother in this funny and action-packed illustrated middle grade adventure.
When winter comes, Bub the moose knows it’s time for him and his mother to travel across the mountains and find a valley with less snow and more food. On the way, Bub meets Snow the wolf pup and Chippy the beaver, who have their own ways of getting through the winter. And, despite his mom’s warnings about people, Bub eats the hay left out by children who want to help the small, hungry moose family.
After braving the elements, Bub is ready to take things easy when they reach the valley. It’s much warmer and there’s food aplenty, as well as new friends Raney and Sweet Pea—draft horses on a nearby farm. But their safety is threatened by a grizzly bear named Burly who scares the valley residents.
Bub is scared too, but he wants to protect his friends. Can he overcome his fear and discover the kind of moose he wants to be?
