About David Parlett

David Parlett (author) is a former teacher and technical writer. He has been a freelance games inventor and writer for over 40 years. His now classic board game Hare & Tortoise has won many international awards and he is a visiting professor in board games design at the University of Suffolk. But he is best known for his research into card games especially for his ground-breaking Oxford History of Card Games and the encyclopaedic Penguin Book of Card Games. Besides inventing card games he is often called upon to advise on the staging of historic card games in lm and TV productions such as Downton Abbey and Poldark.
