This book helps you create wonderful mythical creatures with in-depth carving and painting demonstrations. It is designed for beginning and intermediate carvers. Beginning and intermediate carvers will learn to create wonderful mythical creatures from wood with the patterns and step-by-step projects in this book from noted author and carver Shawn Cipa. Carving Fantasy & Legend Figures in Wood, Revised Edition offers expert guidance for carving all the great creatures of legend, including wizards, dragons, faeries, mermaids and more. Two in-depth carving and painting demonstrations are each accompanied by dozens of step-by-step colour photos. Detailed patterns and colour reference photos are also provided for ten additional popular fantasy figures, including a unicorn, troll, gargoyle, phoenix and gryphon. It includes a basic introduction to woodcarving that offers advice on using the proper tools, selecting wood and paint types, using patterns and painting and finishing techniques.
Shawn Cipa's carving repertoire shows his preference for all things whimsical. Shawn's first attempt at carving was a bearded "wood spirit" face which he scrawled into a piece of found driftwood. He continues to carve solely with hand tools in the rolling hills of Western Pennsylvania. Shawn Cipa was recognized as 'Santa Carver of the Year' after he won Woodcraft's National Santa Carving contest. His work has appeared in Woodcarving Illustrated magazine. He is also the author of Wood Spirits and Green Men (9781565232617).
