But while his work as a folklorist rivaled that of the Brothers Grimm, Pitre remains a relative unknown. Catarina the Wise highlights some of the most delectable stories at the heart of his collection. Jack Zipes is professor emeritus of German and comparative literature at the University of Minnesota.
