Charlton Athletic Football Club was formed in 1905, turned professional in 1921, and have played at their ground, The Valley, since 1920. Charlton Athletic: A Pictorial History presents the Addicks from a personal angle, as David Ramzan explores the history of the club from the first time he attended in the 1960s to the present day. The history and matches played prior to his time are drawn from the stories told to him by other members of his family and friends, who have been supporting the club since Charlton's formation in the early 1900s, using archive images and personal memorabilia from his own collection, and those of his family and friends.
David C. Ramzan studied local history as an Undergraduate at the University of Oxford, and has written and illustrated a series of books on topics including football, pirates and cookery, as well as researching the history and heritage of his local area, Greenwich, London. A self-employed graphic designer, illustrator and artist, he also worked in special educational needs and has written several historical publications and articles for magazines and periodicals, subjects which include local, maritime and football history; piracy, smuggling and Victorian crime.
