The unique and picturesque village of Cheddar has a long and ancient history, from world-famous landmarks to local myths and ghost stories. From as early as 1130 the beauty of Cheddar Gorge was recognised as one of the ‘Four Wonders of England’. It is through archive and contemporary photographs that the distinctive landscape and history of Cheddar is captured and successfully celebrated.
Serving as both a practical guidebook and a nostalgic look back for residents of the village, this book will explore Cheddar from the depths of the caves to the top of the gorge. Throughout the last century, Cheddar has progressed and created its own niche on the map. From strawberries and cheese to distinctive tourist attractions, this book makes it clear that Cheddar should be on the map for any tourist of the UK. This is the fully up-to-date version of Cheddar Through Time.
