First published in 1991. Children in the Wind first appeared as a serial in the Asahi Newspaper, in which it was published over a two-month period late in 1936. By the year 1936, Japan - like America - was starting to recover from the Great Depression. There were good reasons to be hopeful about domestic economic recovery and the expansion of trade with foreign countries.
