Embark on a spiritual journey with this guide to Christian festivals, feasts and holy days.
From the anticipation of Advent to the joy of Christmas to the renewal of Easter and beyond, this almanac tracks the rhythm of the Christian calendar.
What are the origins of each festival, feast or holy day? How are they celebrated in the different traditions of the Church? What can they offer us today? How, taken together, do they tell the Christian story?
Beautifully illustrated, and with extracts from poetry, hymns and the Bible, it will accompany you through seasons of joy and wonder, sorrow and loss, gratitude and hope, feasting and celebrating.
Gordon McKechnie was educated at the International School of Geneva and the University of Oxford, where he read Philosophy, Politics and Economics. His interest in the interaction of worldviews and ideas with culture, politics and the arts is longstanding. Following a career in finance and consulting, he worked for HM Treasury and held non-executive roles with the OECD, the Department for Education and Tearfund. He has travelled widely and interacted with a range of religions and expressions of Christianity, including their celebrations and festivals. Drawing on these travels, he has published fifteen essays in various journals. His research on Ezra Pound and TS Eliot has been cited in literary publications on these poets.
