‘Cissy’s War’ is a riveting and truly emotionally engaging novel about how a colossal tragedy can change the shape of the future. This dramatic story shows the main character having to come to terms with the loss of her entire family and the only life she knew.
Cissy Browning adores living in the East End of London with her parents and siblings in 1939. When the Second World War starts she hopes that it won’t interfere, too much, with her cosy existence. Sadly, it does and the events that follow rock all of Cissy’s world. First, Cissy’s close friend, Dolly, is evacuated then almost all of Cissy’s family are killed in an air raid. Cissy finds herself fighting an inner battle with herself to try and come to terms with the new life that was thrust upon her by events she can’t control.
Kathryn Cowling was born in Cornwall and still lives there today. Her previous three books feature many of the same characters who are also in this book, they are, ‘Fairly Jane’ (2018), ‘The Enduring Ripples of War’ (2019) and ‘Out of the Night and Into the Dark’ (2020). Kathryn enjoys writing fiction about people living in the West of England during World War Two.
