This collection of photographs is Natalie Murphy’s third book for the Images of Wales Series and is the third collection to focus in and around Bridgend. In the style of the previous editions, this new compilation offers a unique glimpse into eras gone by in the parishes of Coity Higher, Coity Lower, and a small area of Newcastle Lower, from the turn of the nineteenth century and over the subsequent 100 years.

There are fascinating gems from the earliest days of photography, including landscapes and street scenes, preserving the memories of faces and businesses, or views of the town and countryside that would otherwise be lost over time. This book is a valuable chronicle of changing generations and shifting scenery, both a record of outings, celebrations, Coronation parties or Wild West shows, and a reminder of the sacrifice of war or the hardship of the 1960 flood.

The reader will be aware of the great changes that occur with even the relatively brief passing of time, and also the things about the area that never change. This book will be of importance to anyone with an interest in Bridgend; whether a resident or a curious newcomer, there is much to ponder in this latest selection of historic photographs.
