Following publication of the First Series of Fenichel's Collected Papers, covering the period 1922-1936, the present volume includes the writings which appeared from 1936 to the author's death in 1946. Taken together, those two volumes present all of Otto Fenichel's more significant contributions to psychoanalysis. In these later papers is revealed anew the breadth of view, the lively perception, and the variety of interests that marked his earlier work.

Otto Fenichel (1897 – 1946), a psychoanalyst, is the author of Problems of Psychoanalytic Technique, Psychoanalytic Theory of Neurosis, and more. Hanna Fenichel Pitkin is a political theorist. She is a Professor Emerita of Political Science at the University of California, Berkeley. Her books include The Concept of Representation, Wittgenstein and Justice, and Fortune is a Woman: Gender and Politics in the Thought of Niccolò Machiavelli, in addition to numerous articles and edited volumes. David A. Rapaport (1911 – 1960) was a Hungarian clinical psychologist and psychoanalytic ego psychologist.
