Dean Edwards is the KING of family-friendly, budget cooking and he loves a BBQ.

This life-changing cookbook is for anyone who's always felt afraid to cook on a BBQ. The secret's out: it doesn't have to be complicated, and there will always be a primal desire to cook over fire.

These are more than 90 of Dean's all-time favourite BBQ recipes, designed to give you the confidence to cook more adventurously over charcoal. When it comes to BBQ, there are many different set-ups, not only with the method of cooking but also the type of barbecue you use. There is a great selection of recipes that simply use a grill perched over the top of charcoal, and are perfect for beginners. There are recipes that use a barbecue with a lid, which can be temperature controlled and adjusted to allow the food to be cooked in an oven-like setting. There are slow-cook recipes that use gentle heat and smoke to tenderise meat, such as pork shoulder, to make a delicious melt-in-the-mouth pulled pork. And since the weather can't always be trusted, there will be occasions when you might need to take refuge indoors - there's a whole chapter of endlessly useful dishes that can be made on the BBQ, or in the oven, air fryer or slow cooker so that you never have to ditch the BBQ plans.

Whether you're in the mood for skewers, sandwiches, tasty grills or roasts, there's something here for everyone. Come rain or shine, for small meals or big family gatherings, Dean's got you covered with budget-friendly, super tasty, fuss-free BBQ recipes for years to come!
Dean Edwards burst onto the chef circuit in 2006 when he came second on BBC's MasterChef. He then worked at the two Michelin-starred Midsummer House in Cambridge before returning to his home city of Bristol. He decided that he wanted to champion achievable budget-friendly recipes that ordinary families could cook every day. The dad-of-two takes inspiration from across the globe but always uses ingredients that are familiar to most. He posts hugely popular recipe videos to more than 1.4M dedicated fans across Instagram, TikTok and Facebook as @deanedwardschef.

Dean has returned to MasterChef many times as a guest judge, critiquing the new contestants' food alongside other former champions. He has also appeared on many television programs, including This Morning, Lorraine, Steph's Packed Lunch, John and Lisa's Weekend Kitchen, Take on the Takeaway, Market Kitchen and The Big Eat. In 2020, Dean was also at the centre of Chef vs Cornershop. In 2024, he starred in Air Fryers vs Microwaves: Which is Better? and in 2025 The Air Fryer Diet.
