Lord's Cricket Ground is the most famous cricket ground in the world. It is the home of Marylebone Cricket Club (M.C.C.) and is variously described as the 'cathedral of cricket' and the ground at which all Test cricketers aspire to play and to play well.England's first Test match at Lord's was played in 1884 and their opponents were naturally Australia but series between the two countries had not then become known as the 'Ashes series'. England won that first Test match at Lord's by an innings. The 'Ashes' Test match scheduled for July 2013 will be England's 125th Lord's Test and this book records that match and all the previous ones in a brilliantly descriptive history of Test cricket played at this iconic ground. This wonderfully illustrated book brings to life the historic and the contemporary and will most certainly grace the bookshelves of cricket lovers around the world. Also recorded are two Tests played between teams other than England, in 1912 and 2010, and one in 1970 which lost its Test match status much to the disappointment of one man.
Jonathan Rice is the author of more than 50 books on sports and popular culture, including "The Pavilion Book of Pavilions," "Presidents of the M.C.C.," and "Wisden on India." He is a member of the M.C.C. and the Cricket Writers' Club. He was chairman of the Lord's Taverners from 2006 to 2008, and is also President of Saltwood Cricket Club in Kent.
