Step onto the shores of Cornwall’s enchanted land and delve deep into a seam of windswept stories. High up on the cliffs lurk lovesick giants, playful piskies and hungry dragons. Below on the sands, beware hissing spriggans, merrymaids and restless ghosts. In granite villages meet dashing devils and wise women. Among mines, moors and seascapes swirling with folklore, inhale the true spirit of Cornwall and let your imagination run free with the legends of this wonderful place.
Capturing the magic of Mid and West Cornwall, folklore writer Anna Chorlton retells its tales, illustrated by local children and artists.
Anna Chorlton writes in the Cornish wilds. She is inspired by nature, folklore, history, people, and places. The Silver Ball, an audio drama about The Hurlers Stone Circles on Bodmin Moor, was produced by Alternative Stories (spring, 2021) and performed as part of the Cornish Gorsedh, (autumn, 2024). She wrote the animation scripts and tales for the Cornish folklore project, Mazed (www.mazedtales.org) which retells the traditional tales of Cornwall in ways old and new, and two books linked to the project. Mazed was nominated for a Celtic Media Award for Innovation and a Holyer an Gof. Anna’s poetry is internationally published in journals including Ice Floe Press (2022), Atlanta Review, (2020), Wild Court, (2021, 2024), and Skylight47, (2022). Her first book in the Cornish Folk Tales of Place series was published by The History Press in 2019.
