At the centre of good counselling and psychotherapy practice is the relationship between therapist and client. This book is an essential guide for counselling and psychotherapy students who want to explore the personal qualities and attitudes of the therapist, and to allow the client to engage in the therapeutic process with trust.
The book will consider how students of counselling can develop these qualities and enhance their awareness of their attitudes, to enable them to be fully present and emotionally available in their encounters with clients.
Judith Green is an experienced counsellor, supervisor and trainer. She has developed, delivered and managed counselling programmes in both the FE and HE sectors. Her research interests have included, work with young people, bereavement and loss, emotional abuse and the personal and professional development of the teachers of counselling. She holds a diploma, a masters and a doctorate in the field of counselling and is a senior accredited member of BACP and an accredited supervisor. For the last 10 years she has been the director of the counselling programme at the Institute of Continuing Education at the University of Cambridge.
