Longlisted for The Laurel Prize 2024

Becky Varley-Winter’s striking debut explores themes of daring, danger and risk in poems that are packed with imagery from the natural world. Complex, hypnotic, memorable – this collection introduces a significant new voice.

Becky Varley-Winter grew up on the Isle of Wight alongside two triplet sisters, a younger brother, and a lot of bats. She now lives in London and teaches Creative Writing and English Literature for Morley College and The Poetry School, amongst other work. Her poetry won the Brewer Hall Prize, the T. R. Henn Prize, and has been longlisted in the National Poetry Competition and Eric Gregory Awards. She is the author of Bloom (Broken Sleep Books), Heroines (V. Press) and Reading Fragments and Fragmentation in Modernist Literature (Sussex Academic Press).
