This beautifully presented monograph features the outstanding architectural and planning design work of Washington D.C.–based David M. Schwarz Architects, a firm with a significant focus on how buildings relate and contribute to their surroundings. Featuring 40 projects across the United States, the range of work in this book is extensive and includes cultural, sports and entertainment, office and residential, mixed-use, retail, hospitality, civic, healthcare, and education projects.
Each project is richly photographed in lavish full colour, with text commentary by Craig P. Williams, who has been associated with David M. Schwarz Architects for nearly forty-five years. All essays in this volume are based either on Craig P. Williams’s firsthand recollections or direct conversations with his colleagues who worked on those projects.
Craig P. Williams has been associated with David M. Schwarz Architects for 43 years. Starting in March of 1979 during spring break from the University of Maryland School of Architecture, he progressed from intern to job captain to project architect to project manager, and finally to principal. He served in those capacities on many of the firm’s projects presented in this volume. Those he is most proud of include the Ballpark in Arlington, Bass Hall, 1133 Connecticut Avenue, Severance Hall, the American Airlines Center, Schermerhorn Symphony Center, Sid Richardson Museum and the Charleston Gaillard Center.
He is still involved in firm management, advising on legal matters, ongoing business development, maintaining client relationships, and at-large design critiques. He also serves as a design, technical, and history resource for the firm.
