Percy Reboul and John Heathfield , both well-known local historians, have drawn on wartime newspaper reports, graphic personal recollections and official records in order to recreate the special atmosphere of wartime Barnet, and to show how ordinary people reacted to the challenge of this remarkable period.
Percy Reboul was born in Whetstone in 1930. His youth was dominated by the Second World War and he experienced at first hand some of the events related in this book. Percy has written several books and many articles on local history subjects. John Heathfield is a former chairman of the Barnet and District Local History Society and he has written over two dozen books on the history of the district. He is joint author of a local history column in the local press.
