The world is on the verge of fully ushering in the fourth industrial revolution, of which artificial intelligence (AI) is the most important new general-purpose technology. Like the steam engine that led to the widespread commercial use of driving machineries in the industries during the first industrial revolution; the internal combustion engine that gave rise to cars, trucks, and airplanes; electricity that caused the second industrial revolution through the discovery of direct and alternating current; and the Internet, which led to the emergence of the information age, AI is a transformational technology. It will cause a paradigm shift in the way’s problems are solved in every aspect of our lives, and, from it, innovative technologies will emerge. AI is the theory and development of machines that can imitate human intelligence in tasks such as visual perception, speech recognition, decision-making, and human language translation.

This book provides a complete overview on the deep learning applications and deep neural network architectures. It also gives an overview on most advanced future-looking fundamental research in deep learning application in artificial intelligence. Research overview includes reasoning approaches, problem solving, knowledge representation, planning, learning, natural language processing, perception, motion and manipulation, social intelligence and creativity. It will allow the reader to gain a deep and broad knowledge of the latest engineering technologies of AI and Deep Learning and is an excellent resource for academic research and industry applications.

Hasmik Osipyan has a PhD in engineering and holds a master’s degree in computer science from the National Polytechnic University of Armenia. She also has experience in the field of psychology and pursuing her second master’s degree at Yerevan State University. She is presently a software development manager at Synopsys Inc., Yerevan, Armenia, an electronic design automation company. She started her management career in 2019 after being a software developer 8 years for various international companies. Hasmik has worked not only in the industry, but has also conducted her research at several well-known research institutions around the world, including the Imagineering Institute, Malaysia and the University of Geneva. Her experience with both academia and industry has provided her invaluable experience.

Hasmik has been honored with several awards, including the Swiss Government Excellence Scholarship, the Best PhD Student of State Engineering University of Armenia in IT Sphere, etc. She has authored numerous articles in various prestigious conferences in the field of computer vision, artificial intelligence and GPU programming.

Bosede Iyiade Edwards is an instructional technologist, and researcher in applications of emerging technologies in learning and cognition. She has a multidisciplinary background with honours Bachelor in Chemistry and a Master in Organic Chemistry, from University of Ibadan, Nigeria. She holds Master and PhD in Educational Technology from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM). Bosede was a lecturer in Nigeria, and as a Research Officer at the Center for Teaching and Learning, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia. She was a research fellow at the Imagineering Institute, Malaysia, a blue-sky R & D lab with focus on the ‘future of internet’. Bosede is currently exploring the application of emerging technologies like artificial intelligence, machine learning, robotics and other emerging technologies in education. She is a two-time awardee of UTM graduate school’s International Doctoral Fellowship. She was awarded the Best Postgraduate Student and Academic Excellence awards as well as several others by UTM Office of International Affairs. She won the IEEE Frontiers in Education ‘Faculty Fellow’ Award for Engineering Education in 2018. Bosede has published several academic articles, in addition to fictions, non-fictions and an organic chemistry textbook. Bosede is currently an adjunct lecturer with Raffles University Malaysia and an Online Instructor with BSD Education, Hong Kong.

Adrian David Cheok AM is Full Professor at i-University Tokyo, Director of the Imagineering Institute, Malaysia, Visiting Professor at Raffles University, Malaysia, Visiting Professor at University of Novi Sad-Serbia, on Technical faculty "Mihailo Pupin", Serbia, Faculty of Ducere Business School, and CEO of Nikola Tesla Technologies Corporation. He is Founder and Director of the Mixed Reality Lab, Singapore.
