Brothers Ansgar and Benedikt Schulz are among the most successful architects in Germany. Their designs are regarded as sophisticated, their constructions optimized and economical, their spatial concepts custom-made yet flexible. Their architecture is of timeless beauty and free of formal gimmickry, firmly rooted in the modernist tradition shaped by Mies van der Rohe.
What is the secret of this unpretentious, human-centered architecture? Architecture critic Falk Jaeger focuses on the ideas, architectural stance, and social positioning of the two architects, which he conveys to readers in pointed and engaging texts.
- Insights into the design approach of the award-winning architectural firm, known especially for its public and cultural buildings
- A look at an architecture that once again values the timeless potential of modern architecture
Falk Jaeger studied architecture and art history and taught architectural history and theory at various universities. He lives and works in Berlin as a freelance architecture critic and publicist for leading daily newspapers, trade journals, internet portals, and specialized publishers.
Ansgar Schulz and Benedikt Schulz founded the office Schulz und Schulz in Leipzig in 1992. Following teaching positions at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) and a double professorship at the TU Dortmund, they have held the Chair of Design and Construction at TU Dresden jointly since 2018. Their built work has received numerous awards, including the 2018 Großer DAI Preis für Baukultur (Grand DAI Award for Building Culture).
