*** Read Shona MacLean's new novel, The Cromarty Library Circle, out now! ***

Yorkshire, 1655. Captain Damian Seeker of Oliver Cromwell's guard has been ordered to the North. Charged with preparing the way for the rule of the major-generals, he is placed under the command of Colonel Robert Lilburne at York. But when Lilburne sends him to the small village of Faithly to enforce stringent new anti-Royalist laws, Seeker quickly encounters a plot that rivals anything in scheming London.

For who would so brazenly murder a young girl at a dinner for locals? And could this be part of a larger plot against Cromwell's government in the North? Murder, treachery and a reckoning with his own past await Seeker as he searches for the truth in a place where secrets are rife, suspicion abounds and grudges run deep.

'A suspenseful, atmospheric addition to one of the best historical crime series on the market' The Times

'Powerful and atmospheric . . . MacLean's talent for character development makes the enigmatic Seeker such a compelling protagonist' Crime Review

S.G. MacLean (Shona) has a PhD in History from the University of Aberdeen. She is the author of two historical crime series - the Alexander Seaton series, set in seventeenth century Scotland and the Damian Seeker series, set in Oliver Cromwell's London, for which she has twice won the CWA Historical Dagger. Her standalone Jacobite thriller, The Bookseller of Inverness, was Waterstones Scottish Book of the Year 2023. Shona lives in Conon Bridge, Scotland.
